Why Do Some Reddit GIFs Download as MP4?
Not every animation that loops like a GIF on Reddit is stored as a traditional .gif file. Reddit frequently converts uploaded animations into silent, looping MP4 video streams on v.redd.it to reduce file size by up to 80% and play at 60fps.
That means an animation Reddit labels as a GIF in the feed may actually be stored as a high-definition MP4 video stream or a native i.redd.it GIF file.
RDSave automatically detects the true underlying container from the Reddit post and provides the proper downloadable file so it plays smoothly on your device without corruption.
